A bridge washout and excessive water on a trail has forced the temporary closure of two snowmobile trail segments in the eastern Upper Peninsula.

The trail segments are closed until further notice.

In Chippewa County, north of Paradise, a section of the UP 452 Trail that spans the Shelldrake River is closed. Bridge footings were washed out with high water. Trail staff with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has explored potential reroutes, but no good alternatives are available. A dead-end trail will be groomed to the Whitefish Point area.

In Schoolcraft County, north of Indian Lake, major water holes over a section of the UP 7 Trail is closed, with a reroute available. Snowmobilers are being rerouted down the UP 413 Trail to Schoolcraft County Road 447 (Thunder Lake Road) to its connection back to UP 7 Trail. The reroute covers approximately 2.5 miles.

Snowmobilers are reminded to ride with caution and watch for trail hazards, including low-hanging tree limbs and downed trees.
